We fared pretty weel in week five’s NFL Picks, going 9-4 over the 13 games. This week we aim to crack 10 correct picks, while also providing you some quick fantasy insight for each NFL matchup.
Teams on bye this week: Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks
San Francisco 49ers @ Detroit Lions
Both of these defenses have the ability to completely shutdown offenses, while Detroit can hang with anyone offensively. The 49ers need to continue to prove themselves, while the Lions just don’t look like a team that is about to lose anytime soon.
Fantasy Insight: Stafford and co. could have a field day against the 49ers’ weak pass defense, while Jahvid Best isn’t a great play against a 49ers run defense that hasn’t allowed a rushing touchdown all year.
Lions 27, 49ers 17
Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins
Sweet irony could have Michael Vick’s season ending in the same spot where he got hurt last year. Then again, he could also go off on this Redskins team in the same fashion he did the second time these teams faced in 2010. I’m guessing it’s somewhere in the middle, but I still can’t see a way the Eagles fall all the way to 1-5.
Fantasy Insight: Michael Vick may be throwing picks, but he’s still an elite fantasy option. Ryan Torain should find solid success against a very weak Eagles run defense, as long as he’s getting the ball.
Eagles 30, Redskins 23
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Pittsburgh Steelers
This one is a borderline gimme game for Pittsburgh after they poured it on thick all over the Titans last week. Jacksonville competes and can play some defense, but Blaine Gabbert should struggle on the road against a more spirited Steelers defense.
Fantasy Insight: Ben Roethlisberger could pick up where he left off last week in this one, but Steelers running backs aren’t safe bets against a pretty solid Jaguars run defense.
Steelers 34, Jaguars 9
St. Louis Rams @ Green Bay Packers
The Rams have no chance on the road against a team as explosive as the Packers.
Fantasy Insight: Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay passing game is going to have a field day in this one. Sam Bradford could be serviceable as a fantasy option due to the Rams likely passing a ton in the second half.
Packers 41, Rams 21
Buffalo Bills @ New York Giants
The Giants choked big-time at the end of their week five contest with the Seattle Seahawks, while the Bills sent the Eagles to an unlikely 1-4 start. There’s just something about the Bills that won’t let me go against them right now. Besides, the Giants collapse every year, and now would be a great time to start.
Fantasy Insight: Ryan Fitzpatrick and Fred Jackson are solid plays, as usual, while Eli Manning is a risk against a Bills secondary that has twice picked off four passes in a game.
Bills 24, Giants 23
Indianapolis Colts @ Cincinnati Bengals
It’s time for the Colts to get a win. It’s pretty clear they’re lost without Peyton Manning, but Curtis Painter looked vastly improved last week, and the Colts might be able to mess with rookie Andy Dalton enough to get a win.
Fantasy Insight: Be weary of Cedric Benson’s looming suspension, while this week offer’s another potentially huge effort for Pierre Garcon. I like Reggie Wayne to keep improving, as well.
Colts 26, Bengals 20
Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons
I trust in Cam Newton, but I don’t trust in the Carolina Panthers. Atlanta blew their week five game against the Packers, so now they’ll need to out-last Newton and the Panthers at home in week six just to get to 3-3. Carolina will give them a ball game, but Atlanta’s balance at home-field advantage should see them prevail.
Fantasy Insight: Newton should be a quality play yet again, while Michael Turner should really get going against a weak Panthers rush defense.
Falcons 34, Panthers 27
Cleveland Browns @ Oakland Raiders
I like both of these teams, but the Peyton Hillis situation is either going to die now or crush this team’s morale. I think it ends this week with Hillis leading the charge in a big win. The Raiders are on a high after an emotional win following the death of owner Al Davis, but I think they come down from it for at least one week.
Fantasy Insight: Hillis should get the ball a lot more than he did in week four, so unless you hear news saying otherwise, look for him to have a solid game.
Browns 20, Raiders 17
Houston Texans @ Baltimore Ravens
I really like the Texans this year, but losing Mario Williams for the season and not having Andre Johnson around hurts them in this matchup. Besides, the Ravens play well at home.
Fantasy Insight: This isn’t the best matchup to use Ray Rice in, while Matt Schaub should be pretty active with the Ravens tough run defense focusing all of their attention on Arian Foster. Baltimore’s Torrey Smith could be a sneaky play at the WR3 spot.
Ravens 27, Texans 20
New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay scored just three points in week five, which makes their fantasy options a risky play in a tough divisional matchup. The Saints are hot right now, and the Bucs look to be the same kind of tease they were in 2010.
Fantasy Insight: Drew Brees is good to go as usual, while Marques Colston is getting more reliable by the week. LeGarrette Blount is still a bit inconsistent, but he’s much more trust-worthy in this matchup.
Saints 31, Buccaneers 24
Dallas Cowboys @ New England Patriots
A shootout waiting to happen, this one could go either way based off of how the Cowboys have been playing this year. However, due to their inconsistency, I’ll take the Patriots explosiveness at home.
Fantasy Insight: Wes Welker should continue to be a delight, while Tony Romo will find it hard not to go off against New England’s terrible secondary.
Patriots 33, Cowboys 27
Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears
Divisional matchups are tough to gauge, but it took the Vikings five weeks to get a win, while Chicago hung in there against an undefeated Lions squad. The Bears are at home and need to get a win to keep themselves in the hunt for a wild card spot.
Fantasy Insight: Adrian Peterson should still be used as normal, while Jay Cutler could have a solid outing at home after showing promise last week.
Bears 23, Vikings 20
Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets
Miami lost Chad Henne for the year and the Jets are reeling. It could literally go either way, but I’ll roll with the team that has appeared in the last two AFC title game.
Fantasy Insight: Brandon Marshall isn’t the best play this week with a tough matchup with the Jets elite corners. Ironically, Daniel Thomas could have some solid success (if he plays), against an uncharacteristically poor Jets run defense. Jets receivers could also fare well against a suspect Miami pass defense.
Jets 38, Dolphins 24
