There are four games on tap in the National Hockey League Friday. There aren’t many superstars, but there are a lot of solid picks. Guys who aren’t exactly household names are on hot streaks and will make for good picks on a light night.
Florida Panthers at Pittsburgh Penguins 7pm ET
Penguins LW Chris Kunitz ($137K) has scored a goal in every other game over the past six contests, so he is due to light the lamp if that trend is to continue. He has averaged 15.2 fantasy points per game during the span, so he is worth rolling the dice on. C Evgeni Malkin ($235K) had an eight-game points streak halted Wednesday by Toronto, but he still has six goals and 12 points over the past nine games. He might be a little pricey, but is worth making room if you are in a hi-cap league. The Panthers TG might be tempting at $180K, but they had two or fewer points three times in the past four games, totaling just eight fantasy points during the four-game span. Avoid.
Los Angeles Kings at Detroit Red Wings 7:30pm ET
Kings C Anze Kopitar accounted for the only goal Thursday in a loss at Columbus, extending his points streak to five games. He has three goals and six points with a plus-4 rating during the span. At $145K, he is a solid play, especially on a light NHL night. C Jeff Carter struck out in his return to C-Bus Thursday, posting minus-3 fantasy points. He is scoreless in five of his first six games in a Kings sweater. At $130K, he is a bit too pricey. Red Wings D Niklas Kronwall was scoreless last time out against Philadelphia, but he has two goals and seven points over his past four outings. At $151K, he is a decent play.
New York Rangers at Chicago Blackhawks 8:30pm ET
The Blackhawks took care of the Rangers last time the teams met at Madison Square Garden Feb. 16. The Blackhawks TG has managed 17 or more fantasy points in four of past five games, so they might be a great play at $168K despite a tough opponent. Rangers RW Ryan Callahan posted the team’s only goal in a loss at Ottawa Thursday, and he registered four hits for 13 fantasy points. At $165K, he is a decent fantasy option. Rangers LW Carl Hagelin ($135K) has averaged 10.3 fantasy points per game over his past three outings. Blackhawks RW Marian Hossa ($148K) had a four-game points streak halted last time out against St. Louis Tuesday, but he still has three goals with five points and a plus-3 rating over his past five games.
Winnipeg Jets at Calgary Flames 9pm ET
Flames LW Curtis Glencross ($175K) has lit the lamp in four consecutive games heading into Friday, and he has six points with a plus-2 rating during the span. Glencross also has at least one hit and eight PIM over the past six games. Flames D Mark Giordano has two goals and four points over his past five games, posting at least 25 fantasy points in three of those outings. He has been feast or famine lately, as the other two games during the span he has accounted for six total fantasy points. At $136K, he is worth the gamble, though. Jets C Kyle Wellwood has posted a goal in three of his past four games, going for 14 or more fantasy points in three of the four games. At $113K, he is a nice speculative pick.
