Daily Fantasy NHL Player Picks for Sunday 3/18/12

It’s Sunday, and there are six games on tap in the National Hockey League. It all starts with a Keystone State battle, and one which could be a playoff preview, too. The Blue Jackets-Flames game isn’t the most attractive game, but there might be a slew of fantasy options in that one. The same holds true for the Coyotes-Oilers and Hurricanes-Jets games, as there are a bunch of guys on hot streaks in those two contests.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers 12:30pm ET

Penguins C Sidney Crosby ($204K) has been well worth the wait. In two games since returning from concussion, he has managed five assists, a plus-5 rating and 60 fantasy points. As long as he suffers no setbacks, he remains a must-start night in and night out. Flyers LW Scott Hartnell ($164K) is scoreless in four of hs past five games, but he has 10 or more fantasy points in six of the past nine. On a light day, he is worth a look if you can find a lower priced player to offset his high salary. Penguins LW Pascal Dupuis ($148K) has managed goals in each of his past three games, and he has five goals with two assists and a plus-2 rating during his five-game points streak.

Washington Capitals at Chicago Blackhawks 7pm ET

Capitals LW Alex Ovechkin ($161K) has managed three goals with an assist and a plus-2 rating over his past five games. He has managed 10 or more fantasy points in seven of the past 10 games. Blackhawks RW Patrick Kane ($155K) is working on a four-game points streak, and he has five goals with nine points over his past nine games. Capitals D Dmitry Orlov ($119K) is averaging 14.6 fantasy points over his past six games.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Calgary Flames 8pm ET

Flames RW Jarome Iginla ($223K) saw his five-game goal-scoring streak halted Friday in Edmonton, but he still has six goals with 10 points during the past six games. Blue Jackets LW Rick Nash ($138K) is working on a six-game scoreless streak heading into Calgary, and he has a minus-1 rating in each of his past three games. Sooner or later he is going to break out, and he is very low-priced considering his potential. Flames LW Sven Baertschi ($129K) saw his three-game goal-scoring streak ended Friday. He is still averaging 12.7 fantasy points per game over his past four outings.

Phoenix Coyotes at Edmonton Oilers 8pm ET

Oilers C Jordan Eberle ($160K) is on another hot streak, posting three goals with eight points and a plus-4 rating over his past seven games. Oilers LW Taylor Hall saw his four-game goal-scoring streak ended in the most unfortunate way Friday, as he was injured in the first period and never returned. He is uncertain for this one, so avoid him and his $135K salary. Coyotes LW Antoine Vermette ($135K) is averaging 16.7 fantasy points per game over his past six outings.

Nashville Predators at Anaheim Ducks 8pm ET

After a hot streak, Predators LW Sergei Kostitsyn ($138K) is scoreless with a total of six fantasy points over his past two games. Ducks D Cam Fowler ($109K) carries a three-game points streak into play. He has a goal with three assists and four blocked shots during the solid span. Predators LW Martin Erat ($132K) is working on a three-game points streak. He has two goals with four assist sand a plus-2 rating during the span, and he has four goals over his past six games. Erat is averaging 22.7 fantasy points per game over the past three outings.

Carolina Hurricanes at Winnipeg Jets 8:30pm ET

Hurricanes RW Jeff Skinner will be serving the second game of a two-game suspension, so avoid him and his $175K salary. C Eric Staal ($120K) hasn’t scored a goal in nine games, although he does have seven assists during the span. He might be worth a look at this low salary. He has averaged 10.7 fantasy points per game during the span. Jets C Nik Antropov ($116K) has goals in back-to-back games. The Hurricanes TG ($265K) has managed 17 or more fantasy points in six of his past seven games, including four wins and one shutout.
