These “Grinding on a Budget” blogs will be your source for the top Daily Fantasy Hockey value picks from each NHL game every night. Tonight’s schedule is packed full of quality hockey games, so lets take a look at the best bargains from each of the 11 NHL games.
Boston Bruins @ Toronto Maple Leafs
David Krejci – C – Boston Bruins – $45K. Krejci has had an abysmal start to the 2011-2012 season, but he’s simply not a $45K player. It’s only a matter of time before he starts getting back in the swing of things and starts putting up the solid numbers we’ve been used to the last three seasons (187 points and a plus 68 in that span).
Buffalo Sabres @ Ottawa Senators
Derek Roy – C – Buffalo Sabres – $58K. Just like the previously mentioned Krejci, Roy is another player who is simply too good of a hockey player to be priced so low. When healthy, Derek Roy has been basically a point-per-game player over the last five seasons. With this matchup versus an Ottawa team that’s allowed almost four goals per games this year, Roy is well worth a play for just $58K.
Winnipeg Jets @ New Jersey Devils
Zach Parise – LW – New Jersey Devils – $106K. At 106K, Parise isn’t dirt cheap, but this Team USA hero is still a solid value. Prior to his injury last season, Parise had emerged as one of the top scorers in the NHL. A slow start to this season should have been somewhat expected, but now’s about the time that Parise starts to remind NHL net minders what they’ve been missing.
Washington Capitals @ New York Islanders
Alexander Semin – LW – Washington Capitals – $90K. In Washington’s last game versus Carolina, Semin found himself frequently back on a line with Ovechkin and Backstrom. It’s not much of a secret that Semin’s production increases dramatically when he’s on the ice with these two, and if it continues, that 90K price will double within the week.
Montreal Canadians @ New York Rangers
Sean Avery – LW – New York Rangers – $45K. With Wojtek Wolski missing Saturday’s game with a groin injury, the door has opened for Sean Avery to make his season debut against the Canadians. While Avery is not much of a goal scorer, his PIMS and Hits do offer enough fantasy value to easily justify the $45K price tag.
Columbus Blue Jackets @ Philadelphia Flyers
Jakub Voracek – RW – Philadelphia Flyers – $69K. On Saturday night, Voracek squares off against his former team for the first time in his career. After three solid seasons in Columbus, I’d be surprised if he doesn’t send a message to the Columbus front office and play his best game of the young season tonight.
Anaheim Ducks @ Detroit Red Wings
Henrik Zetterberg – LW – Detroit Red Wings – $75K. Zetterberg is another player off to an awful start by his standards, but his points will come. He’s consistently been a point-per-game player since 2005 and there is no reason to expect that to change this year. In four games against Anaheim last year, Hank netted 2 goals and added 4 assists.
St. Louis Blues @ Minnesota Wild
T.J. Oshie – C – St. Louis Blues – $66K. Oshie tallied three points (2 goals and an assist) on Friday Night versus Vancouver and now has 6 points in his last 6 games. The Blues have been waiting for a breakout season from Oshie, and perhaps this is the beginning of one.
Edmonton Oilers @ Phoenix Coyotes
Oliver Ekman-Larsson – D – Phoenix Coyotes – $67K. The Coyotes first round pick from 2009 appears to have solidified himself as a top four defenseman. With the Power Play time he currently sees, it’s won’t be a surprise if Ekman-Larsson amasses 40 points this season which makes the 67K salary a definite bargain.
Pittsburgh Penguins @ Los Angeles Kings
Drew Doughty – D – Los Angeles Kings – 71K. Doughty is arguably the most valuable defenseman by fantasy hockey terms and by the end of the year his price will certainly be twice as much as it is Saturday. Get him in your lineup.
Nashville Predators @ San Jose Sharks
I don’t see any great value plays in this game. Looks elsewhere if you’re trying to save some salary!
Good luck on Saturday Night in your Daily Fantasy Hockey contests. Don’t forget to join the Squire William’s $2 entry Tournament!
