Daily Fantasy NHL Player Picks for Sunday 3/25/12

The National Hockey League schedule for Sunday night is rather light, as there are just four evening games. There are great fantasy options available in the night action, including the high-flying Penguins and their unbelievable offense. The Predators-Blackhawks game has the chance to be solid, and the Blues-Coyotes usually have a lot of goals when they hook up. You might also find a good goaltending bargain in the Bruins-Ducks matchup.

New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins 7pm ET

Yes, the Penguins have been red hot, so it is probably not the best time to use the Devils TG ($198K). However, the Penguins TG ($255K) hasn’t exactly been the best fantasy unit, either. Pittsburgh allowed eight goals in Ottawa Saturday night, and they have given up 13 goals over the past three outings. Devils LW Zach Parise ($123K) snapped a five-game scoreless skid with a goal against Toronto Friday, but he has managed a total of just 27 fantasy points over his past six outings, including a zero-point performance March 17 against the Penguins. Penguins LW Pascal Dupuis managed just five fantasy points in his last game thanks to a minus-2 rating, but he was able to extend his points streak to nine games with an assist. He has seven goals with 11 points during the impressive run, yet costs you just $146K.

Nashville Predators at Chicago Blackhawks 7:30pm ET

The Predators are 6-0 in their past six games on Sunday, and 12-3 in their past 15 games against the Central Division. That sounds like good news for the Predators TG ($182K), but keep in mind that Nashville has won just twice in the past seven trips to Chicago. The home team is 7-2 in the past nine meetings in the series, so perhaps the Blackhawks TG ($220K) is the must-play here. Blackhawks C Andrew Shaw ($176K) has exploded for four goals, three assists and a plus-6 rating over his past four games, averaging 25.3 fantasy points per game during the impressive span. Predators LW Martin Erat ($163K) has picked up just 11 total fantasy points over his past three games, posting no goals with just one assist and a minus-3 rating. Avoid.

Boston Bruins at Anaheim Ducks 8pm ET

The Bruins are 1-4 in their past five road games, and but that lone win came in Los Angeles Saturday night. Still, the Bruins TG ($180K) is probably a good unit to avoid. They are 3-14 in their past 17 games following a victory. The Ducks are 13-5 in their past 18 home games, so maybe the Ducks TG ($203K) is worth a spin. Bruins D Zdeno Chara ($138K) has managed 10 or more fantasy points in five of the past six games. Ducks D Lubomir Visnovsky might be worth a look at $107K, as he has three assists with a plus-5 rating and 45 total fantasy points over his past two outings. Ducks C Ryan Getzlaf ($155K) has at least one assist in each of his past five games, totaling seven helpers during the solid span with a plus-4 rating.

St. Louis Blues at Phoenix Coyotes 9pm ET

There are a bunch of reasons to avoid both the Blues TG ($242K) and Coyotes TG ($268K) other than their high salaries. The ‘over’ is 4-1-3 in the past eight meetings in this series. In other words, there are usually a lot of goals when St. Louis and Phoenix skate together. In addition, St. Louis is 1-4 in their past five games and 1-4 in their past five road contests. Phoenix is 2-9 in their past 11 games against the Central Division, and just 4-9 in their past 13 games overall. Neither unit screams, ‘Pick me!’ Coyotes LW Raffi Torres ($142K) has two goals, two assists and a plus-4 rating over his past four games, posting 14 or more fantasy points in each of the outings. Blues C Patrik Berglund ($118K) had been hot, but he has just one point (a goal) over his past four outings, averaging 6.5 fantasy points per game during the span. Avoid.
