Daily Fantasy NHL Player Picks for Monday 4/2/12

There are just two games in the National Hockey League on Monday night? No problem. With the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning squaring off, there are no shortage of fantasy options with big-time credentials. The second game between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings will also have a lot of action, and there might be bad blood since they just met recently. For a small slate, there are some interesting games.

Washington Capitals at Tampa Bay Lightning 7pm ET

Lightning C Steven Stamkos, the NHL’s goal leader, and all-time single season franchise leader in goals, has lit the lamp six times over his past five games with a total of eight points. At $211K, he is a great add if you can squeeze him under the cap. Capitals LW Alexander Semin ($113K) is enjoying his best stretch of the season, posting a goal with six points over his past seven games. Lightning RW Martin St. Louis ($110K) is actually a steal at this price level. Sure, he is scoreless over his past two games, and he has gone without a goal in three straight, but he is just two games removed from a three-game stretch with one goal and five assists. He should be on everyone’s roster with a short slate. Lightning RW Teddy Purcell ($92K) was a must-start for a while there, then he tailed off. He is showing some signs of life again with four assists over his past five games.

Edmonton Oilers at Los Angeles Kings 10:30pm ET

With just four units available, the Kings TG ($223K) might be the best of the lot. The early game figures to be a track meet, while the Kings have two wins (including a shutout) in their past three outings, including a win at Edmonton Friday night. Kings C Anze Kopitar ($184K) is hot again, posting a goal with six assists and a plus-5 rating over his past three outings. He has averaged 26.7 fantasy points per game during the impressive span. Kings D Willie Mitchell has two points over his past three games, which isn’t really his game. However, he has 24 blocked shots over his past 10, and that category and his hits are what make him useful. At $116K, he is a solid add on a short night. Oilers C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($135K) has no goals over his past eight games, but he has posted six assists over his past six.
